Okay, let's talk plot, because I know some things were getting kind of confusing there.

1) There will be mod-driven plots, like the cult/murder mystery coming up.

Summary: Some of the original residents of the city of Gondolin are having horrible nightmares. Something is creeping into their dreams. They come together for support, in what develops into a cult, lead by a charismatic cult leader. The cult leader has decided that the only way to keep the creeping horror from their dreams is to start killing the newcomers. We will play out this mystery in game, with the Guards trying to solve the murders. Eventually the killers will be caught, but the source of the dreams will remain a mystery, just like the reason for the time displacement.

The scenario: A body is found, killed in a ritual manner and a strange symbol drawn at the scene.

The cause: A cult of prophetic dreamers in the city, under the lead of a charismatic leader, believe they have discovered what is causing the problems with time and that the people that have appeared in the city have been 'summoned' and they must help the newcomers join the power, to appease it. Of course by "join" they mean "become a ritual sacrifice", but hey, splitting hairs. :D

People to deal with this: Guards, Turgon, Luthien (first discovery of the body, prophetic dreams), and whoever else feels like helping out with a bit of murder solving. Or playing a murderer.

Here's where you come in:

* Some of the new arrivals can start having the dreams too and be drawn to the cult!
* You could play an existing cult member! (If you don't want to create a new journal for this, we have an option, see below)
* You could play a victim! (If you don't want to create a new journal for this, we have an option, see below)
* You could play a victim's family member, come to the Guard for help tracking their missing loved one! (If you don't want to create a new journal for this, we have an option, see below)
* Your character could discover a body!
* Your character could be attacked by cult and escape, offering helpful clues to the Guard, who will be trying to solve this mystery.
* Or any way you would like your character to participate!

We have a shared journal for this plot: [personal profile] gondocase1. You can PM one of the mods for the PW, if you would like to use it. Currently it is being used for plotting purposes and brainstorming, but the idea is that you use this for NPCs involved in the mystery, if you don't want to create new journals for characters you won't be using again. Or you can use your own NPC journal, if you have one. You can also use the shared journal for posting ideas for this plot.

This plot will start off with characters having the dreams, and bodies being found, and then the mystery will play out.

If you are interested in playing in this plot, please comment here, or here, so we'll know to bring you in on all the plot happenings.

This, and all mod-driven plots, will be open to anyone who wants to participate but it's not mandatory. The mods will have a clear outline of how any mod-driven plot is going to proceed, but of course, we are open to ideas and changes along the way.

2) There will also be mod-driven events, like the upcoming Winter Festival. Different than a plot in that it's just an event, with no clear ending - we just want to throw these out there to see how/what comes up, and just so the characters can have something special to do. Again, this is open to anyone who wants to participate, but it's not mandatory.

3) Player-driven plots! This can be anything you like from, say, characters working together on the Festival plans, to characters falling in love, to characters deciding to get together and have a big party. The only thing we ask about player-driven plots is that you clear them with all characters who might be involved, before proceeding, so it doesn't mess up someone else's plans for their character.

A) For example, with the Silmaril-finding, I'd like to know because I want to plan for how Fëanor would react to another Silmaril turning up. So we just want everyone to work together to make sure all the plots can work out.

B) That doesn't mean someone else would get to veto your plot idea. Again, using Fëanor as an example, I am not going to say "No, no one can find a silmaril" but I might say, "Okay, but let's work this out in terms of timeline and how it might affect my character." So basically what we're asking is to be flexible in terms of plotting with others.

I think that's it for now! If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to email us at gondolindrim @ thefannish . org
