Time-skip

Since we've been pretty silent, we're gonna do a timeskip. All plots moved ahead as far as you want, which in MY case means that Dagnir now has kittens, and the spring festival is now in swing! You can move your own plots forward, OR as long as you provide an explanation, move your character into a whole different situation!

Disclaimer: Don't worry if this doesn't quite jive or make sense to you, it's all purely academic to explain how it's working backstage. Just keep playing how you have. No character doubles will come into play without permission from a player.

Potted version:

'You all come from your own timeline and nothing done in the past will affect you. As well, you may be existing concurrently with the version of you that was already here.'

On the nature of the timestream in this game:

As you've seen, with the death of Eol, the future of Gondolin has definitely been changed. What does this mean for characters? Will Elladan cease to exist if Luthien never meets Beren, or Idril marries Gelgannel instead?

What does it mean about people from two different but nearly identical timelines co-existing like Idis and Theodred?

What about people like Daeron/Luthien/All the Feanorians being around while they should also be existing elsewhere?

Well, I like seeing the characters speculate, so don't let them see this entry.

Marriage with elves: Gonna be done with ceremonial Naming. And an actual ceremony for humans since they bond differently? If it's with an elf, I mean. Or whatever they decide on.

Rape*: Not fatal. I am so glad you all agreed on that, but I didn't want to lead you.

*still don't want it happening in-game, although a particular log coming up does mention it.

Theo: at least you didn't lead me on to the point we got married, Fingon
Fingon: Yeah really
Fingon: How ARE we working elf marriages here?
Fingon: I mean like...*looks at John*
Fingon: Cause I sort of feel bad because technically I DID marry Theo

The discussion then veered to precedent via Celegorm and Ecthelion very much not being married. How do we wanna work with canon/what we've done?

ALSO, the userinfo does say that we prefer no rape plots, but it reminds me of how Tolkien said that rape=death for elfs, do we wanna keep that in?
crantz: An amazingly cute kitten gazes at you. She waves her tiny feet in the air. Her itsybitsy widdle feetsies. (look at her TINY FEET OMG)

Because it's occurred to me that I've accidentally created a situation where people have to ask for horses, assume that unless you can find a logical reason that you'd get one of the existing elf horses, except for mearas you can get whatever horse breed you'd like from Eressil/assume there's some already at the stables for adoption or borrowing.

PS, Jess showed me what should totally be the horse from Yaban's homeland Rhun:

I like its curvy ears. It's a Marwari horse.

(The reason for the Mearas restriction is that it's canon that only a prince of Rohan can ride them. They're snobs/sapient)

A place to explain where the non-have to kill them NOW animals go, as well as a place to find domesticated animals are found here with this NPC.

EDIT: Also, don't think you have to go through me to do it, make up your own character for there or whatever, just letting you know there is now a holding area with animals.

Okay, let's talk plot, because I know some things were getting kind of confusing there.

1) There will be mod-driven plots, like the cult/murder mystery coming up )

This, and all mod-driven plots, will be open to anyone who wants to participate but it's not mandatory. The mods will have a clear outline of how any mod-driven plot is going to proceed, but of course, we are open to ideas and changes along the way.

2) There will also be mod-driven events, like the upcoming Winter Festival. Different than a plot in that it's just an event, with no clear ending - we just want to throw these out there to see how/what comes up, and just so the characters can have something special to do. Again, this is open to anyone who wants to participate, but it's not mandatory.

3) Player-driven plots! This can be anything you like from, say, characters working together on the Festival plans, to characters falling in love, to characters deciding to get together and have a big party. The only thing we ask about player-driven plots is that you clear them with all characters who might be involved, before proceeding, so it doesn't mess up someone else's plans for their character.

A) For example, with the Silmaril-finding, I'd like to know because I want to plan for how Fëanor would react to another Silmaril turning up. So we just want everyone to work together to make sure all the plots can work out.

B) That doesn't mean someone else would get to veto your plot idea. Again, using Fëanor as an example, I am not going to say "No, no one can find a silmaril" but I might say, "Okay, but let's work this out in terms of timeline and how it might affect my character." So basically what we're asking is to be flexible in terms of plotting with others.

I think that's it for now! If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to email us at gondolindrim @ thefannish . org

FIRST NOTE: Looks like we're doing a cult thing! I'll start working on that plot immediatement. The main thing to note is that since it's a cult created by an unright thing beneath the city, chances are it'll weave its way into minds again making it a reoccurring problem. Huzzah!

If you have an idea of a character to play a role in it that you don't want to make permanent, just tell me and I'll set you up. The cult leader is the guy already uploaded, Cristfaer. Traditional pretty boy elf.

There was one vote for prophetic dreams, so does anyone have a character who did that in canon?

Was playing with a designer and wondering what the guard uniforms look like. Here's my ideas so far:

I've made the journal [personal profile] gondocase1 to use to write updates for the plot, use for npc characters for the plot, etc, etc.

It will be a shared journal!

What does that mean? Why do you only do this stuff in the early am?

Okay, it means that if you have a role to play in the story but don't want to really keep the character, you put it in this journal and use it to do it.

And I'm at my most active in these hours, because I am a hamster.

What's the plot?

Haven't decided yet. Please, please, I'm begging you, plot with me this time. The first case will primarily involve the guards. This is a good time to create someone attached to the guards, or use an npc journal to make yourself a guard character you don't need to devote much time to.

So for the first plot, it's going to be related to what we decided on previously, the cosmic horror and it starting to bleed into things other than the warp in time.

This is going to lead to a crime case for the guards.

Here's the options:

Any idea for characters? I'll be planning out victims and perpetrators. I learned from last time that it helps to let everyone know what's going on, without too much in the dark. All I gotta ask is that no one use this ooc knowledge for their character to skip to the end.

I had an idea to help facilitate plots and make this less of an eight person city, was something I did in an old pokemon game.

Since we'll have a boatload of icon spaces, the idea is everyone having an extra account, with usernamenpc, and use those slots to create incidental characters you'll need.

In my case, I'd have Theo, Turgon, and Grima (and possibly Melkor, not sure when I'll introduce him), but I'd also have benedictnpc, where I'd have a messenger for Turgon, a head of a guild, maybe a few guards, etc, all under one account.

If you found yourself especially fond of an npc, you could upgrade it to a full character, and the only rule is npcs can't 'claim' faces. If a regular character is apped, they may use a face that's already been used by an npc.

Sound good?

For 'established' characters, for new players to encounter, I had the plan of having a who's who page! Jaiden kindly gave the first biography, for Celegorm! As well, I'll be making another post about NPC character journals.
